6. You should schedule your computer to update the anti-virus files at a time when it is not being used for other activities. Computers may be scheduled to do updates and scans at night. However, you must remember to leave the computer turned on when you leave. It is strongly recommended that all computers have daily updates and scans.

7. When the program returns to the main screen, click Schedule Scans in the left panel then click New Schedule Scan as indicated in the following figure:

8. The following screen displays, click the Next button.

9. Set the scan time 15 to 30 minutes later than the time set for automatic updates as displayed below. Again, it is recommended that the scan frequency be daily. After time and frequency are set, click the next button.

6. Make sure a check mark displays in the “Keep my computer up to date…” checkbox as displayed above. Click the radio button (white circle) beside “Automatically download the updates…”. 7. Set the download to occur every day approximately 2 hours after your virus scan. For example, if you set your virus scan to start at 1:00 AM, start your Windows download at 3:00 AM. The time spacing does not need to be exact, but sufficient time should be allowed between the start of the scan and the start of the Windows download to complete the virus scan. 8. Click the OK button.

The computer is now configured to automatically download and install current Windows XP patches daily. Remember, the computer must be turned on and connected to tie network or internet for this function to work.
